SHAKEROCITY: The Spirit of Shaker in a Word

The Shakerocity Project is intended to encourage a sense of community connectedness and unity through generation of a community definition of a word intended to capture the spirit or essence of Shaker Heights. This will be accomplished through spontaneous on the street interviews with diverse Shaker residents, which will be edited into a video definition of both the word and the community.

The term shakerocity has been coined by the Shaker Prevention Coalition as a term intended to promote community connectedness and social inclusion. Communities with strong connections, that value all members of the community and act on this valuing are more likely to demonstrate resilience and positive health characteristics. Social inclusion strategies have been demonstrated to decrease youth substance abuse, violence and mental health problems.

Shakerocity: (noun) Possessing the spirit or essence of Shaker (Shaker Heights, Ohio); a Shaker state of being. Example: Now, that kid has real shakerocity.
